So thankfully, we have a neighbor that let us borrow his riding lawnmower with a trailer attachment to get the first few loads of rocks up to the landscaping at the top of the house. We left a 6-12 inch space away from the roots of all of the plants.Īs I’m sure you can imagine, carrying a wheel barrow full of rocks up a hill is really heavy. We used scissors to cut the fabric to fit around the curves of the landscaping and to cut around any trees or plants. We used the big rocks to hold down the fabric and in the areas where there weren’t rocks, we used fabric clips inserted into the ground. This serves multiple purposes: it will keep weeds from coming up through the rocks and it gives a black surface for the rocks to be laid on so any spaces or holes won’t be as noticeable. Once we got the layer of red mulch up from all of the beds and edging around the tree beds, we could lay the weed barrier down. We have an empty area behind our house so after shoveling up the mulch and putting it into the wheel barrow and dumping it there.īefore laying the rocks down, we used landscaping edging around the borders of the three tree beds that don’t have bigger rocks to keep the black granite rocks contained. We weren’t concerned with getting it all up because we’ll be covering it with a black weed barrier before laying the rocks so it won’t be visible, but we wanted to remove enough to have an even surface for the rocks. We started by shoveling up the first layer of the red mulch. We dumped it on our driveway and will use a shovel and wheel barrow to move them around the yard to the areas they are needed. We ordered from a local mulch supply store in our area and used my brother’s dump truck to get it to our house. We definitely underestimated the amount of rocks we would need for this job but we wanted to be conservative with the amount of rocks we ordered because we’d rather have to go back for more than have too much left over. Even though it’s quite expensive and requires a lot of work initially, these rocks won’t need to be replaced every couple of years like mulch and the upkeep is very minimal. While our choice for replacing the red mulch with black granite rocks isn’t the most common or cheap option, it was the right choice for us. The inside of the home was our biggest priority so we started there and then we needed to wait until the weather warmed up, but I couldn’t wait until once we were able to tackle this project. When we bought our 1970s fixer upper, all of the landscaping had red mulch and I hated it. Parents need to know that Das Boot is an intense, but superb, Oscar nominated German war movie - based on a 1973 novel - with intense scenes, violence, and strong language. Protect yourself from airborne enemies using the depth of the ocean. Attack Allied submarines and surface vessels rendered in full 3D graphics using an arsenal of torpedoes. Various versions of the movie have been released (as well as a TV series) - this review is of the subtitled 208-minute Director's Cut. Originally published by Artech Digital Entertainment in 1990, Das Boot puts you in the command of a 1941-era Type VII U-Boat, deep under the icy waters of the Atlantic. The movie tells the story of a German u-boat (submarine) mission in 1941 during World War II. Sea battles and the subsequent peril focus on the human issues, with strong emotions including panic, fear, and sadness. Some battles result in bloody injury and during one battle, enemy soldiers on fire jump into the sea. The crew are shown as highly competent and display good teamwork. But the commanding Nazi officers setting their orders are shown to be out of touch. But at the same time, it's also a rare approach to a war movie in that it shows the story from the other side of the. Infrequent strong language includes "f-k" and "s-t." Before the crew leave on their mission, they spend a raucous night at a nightclub, which features lots of smoking, drinking to excess, and disrespectful behavior. Das Boot is a story about growing up for both the young crew and its captain. This includes men grabbing a scantily clad cabaret dancer and urinating on Captain Lehmann-Willenbrock's ( Jürgen Prochnow) car. There are two instances of male characters displaying their naked buttocks - one during an emergency when a man runs out of the bathroom, and the other when a medic inspects a man's genitals for pubic lice. More a horror movie than a gung-ho war film, this excellent WWII drama's focus is very much on the human element of war. baddies, Das Boot excels at creating three-dimensional characters, who each have their "normal" lives wrenched from them by the outbreak of war. Now these 50, mostly, very young men who are crammed into a cramped, smelly submarine, have to keep their nerve amid great danger. As the boat's captain, Jürgen Prochnow strikes the perfect balance between a commander following orders and a man sympathetic to the plight of his young crew and, in one heartbreaking scene, even enemy soldiers. In 1981, a film was released which is still cited as one of Germany’s greatest cinematic triumphs. My experience with Kodi is that it does too many things I don't like when presented with a lot of choices, so I have to manually clean up those choices beforehand. It followed the exploits of U-96, a German submarine, based out of St. Nazaire, France, on the harrowing experience of U-Boat patrol. The film is, of course, Das Boot, and its incredible ability to capture the terrifying and suspense filled life. He looked back and was shocked to see her looking unconcerned. “A baby,” he said, looking around the foyer wildly. “Let me finish this time, please, Henry.” “What?” She said, looking ever so slightly annoyed. “But I had been trying to tell you…” She began. She hit him playfully on the chest as he grinned at the memory of how he had indeed distracted them both. “You did not let me finish before,” she said, her eyes widening with some unspoken news. He would never let her feel that way again. He held her close, in the dark of the foyer, letting his hands and his arms speak for him. “Your father?” Henry said, with understanding, wrapping his arms around her and kissing her hair gently. “There seemed no point in saying yes, no point in saying no. “I was so lonely,” he heard her say, and he felt her body shaking. In the woman's voice, short, quick breaths form words as she cries out her lover's name from deep within the throes of a forbidden love” The guitars keep pace with increasing ferocity. The clapping, now faster, still rhythmic, but so much more intense. The man arches his back, cresting then falling cresting, arching, rising and falling deeper again and again into his lover. The tempo quickens, progressively and with a vigorous intensity. Sweat begins to form on Merrill's forehead, then quickly turns to vapor, dissipating into the blistering heat from the sunlight reflecting off the sands. There is a rhythmic clapping now, in synchronization with the strumming. The guitars pick up in intensity and tempo. Then, a female voice joins the guitars it is slightly raspy, yet sultry filled with a fiery allure. Another guitar joins, like a second hand, exploring her hot flesh, stroking the side of her bare abdomen, and gradually moving upward toward her chest. A lone guitar, its strings strummed with the lustful passion of a young man brushing his fingertips softly against the breasts of his lover. The noon sun bakes the hillside as Merrill's boots dig into the broiling sands. The traditional Italian/American espresso recipe comprises No matter the type of espresso machine, and its ratios, the end-result is generally the same. The ratio of water to coffee is dependent on the type of espresso machine used. In generic terms, espresso is made using a small amount of water that is blasted through a tightly-compressed, finely ground and tamped bed of coffee, at extremely high temperatures. The beans that go in an espresso are not unlike the coffee beans that are used in drip machines in households. In this article I hope to better explain the differences between an espresso, a lungo and a ristretto so you can make a more informed choice when going to your favorite coffee shop or if you want to make them at home! The main difference is that espresso is way of making coffee, whereas a lungo is an espresso that uses more water then usual and a ristretto is an espresso that uses less water than usual to make an espresso I know, when I was younger and before I got into the coffee business, I was also confused about the differences between an espresso, a lungo and a ristretto. However, ordering just an espresso can also cause confusion among the less coffee-savvy types of customer. The flat white should have a strong coffee flavour and a velvety sense of mouth feeling due to the microfoam. Another, more common but also more advanced way to serve the flat white, is by swirling a milk- and microfoam mixture into a shot of espresso, aiming not to let the foam separate from the milk. One way to serve it, is a shot of espresso with steamed milk, so no foam at all. You will find that different countries and cafés have different takes on serving the flat white.
